No Limits To What You Can Accomplish In Your Life!

019-2cRAllow me if you would, to start this post with a quote from Norman Vincent Peale…

“People become really quite remarkable when they start thinking that they can do things. When they believe in themselves, they have the first secret of success.”

For years and years I floundered around through life quite aimlessly just like a “note in a bottle” bobbing around in the currents of the ocean. The corked bottle could only follow the waves and the winds without any means of directing itself and just kept drifting to wherever the wind and the tide would lead me.

This is how approximately 95% of our world’s population faces each day of their lives. I know…as I was in that predicament myself for a very long time. I remember a great friend of mine named Ron Lemerond who was involved in the same profession I was in for just about the same length of time – professional portrait photography.

Ron was my MSR (Manufacturing Sales Representative) from the professional color finishing lab that processed my portraits and film for years (that was the medium we used before digital!!). Ron would visit me usually once a month to let me know of new programs, processes and products available from the lab and we would normally go to lunch when he visited. On many of those visits, he would hand me a 3-part form entitled “5 Year Goals Plan” and would say…”Les, think this over and fill it out for me and I’ll pick it up at our next visit.”

To this day – about 25 years later, I regret not taking his efforts as seriously as I should have. Ron had a very low key way of presenting the 5 Year Goal Plan to me. I now wish he would have given me a good kick in my back-side to get me going on it. But, he did his job…I failed to do mine.

I was a big-time victim of “Self-Limiting Beliefs” and I have now become dedicated to teaching this principle to as many others that I can ever since the day that I finally understood it’s importance.

Surrounding yourself with self-limiting beliefs will keep you from reaching most all of your goals and will also hold you to a level of mediocrity in most all objectives that you attempt to accomplish. Yes, that would include not hitting your “target weight” and developing a healthier lifestyle.

Since the beginning of Get Yourself Fit, this web site, it became obvious that there was a missing link. Why, as the U.S. holds the lead, or close to it, in obesity, does it seem to be so complicated to lend a hand to some people that really want to lose weight and become healthier? It all has to do with the personalization of self-limiting beliefs that so many have adopted as a way of life.

In personal consultations with many that had a definite need to change their habits I would get comments like; I don’t believe that I need to include exercise in my plan, or why would I need to give up fast foods? These are actual comments I have received!

These comments are made because these individuals have lost their self-esteem, self-confidence and more. You cannot just ask for a magic pill because none exist. Breaking these kind of habits are not easy. You must grab this monster by its throat and really possess the desire to bring this monster down! This monster – “self-limiting beliefs” can initially be brought on by one of its friends known as “procrastination”.

By breaking this habit of limiting what you believe you can achieve, you’ll find yourself in an upward spiral of greater persistence, improved strategies and stronger self-discipline once again. You’ll feel better thus increasing your self-esteem which in turn, will jump-start a cycle that will exponentially move you onward and upward in all of your endeavors and in all areas of your life.

Just recently I was in communication with another aspiring new blogger that to me was a candidate for the “Success Club” if there was one in existence today! When she made the statement that she was in blogging full-time and nothing will get in her way…that would be a major understatement!

She reminded me of EXACTLY what it takes to be a blogger, a real estate person, or any kind of business owner. She reminded me how important a list of personal & business RULES were as well as a good set of goals and she reminded me of how important a strong strategic plan of action is. I used to rely on these tools in my last enterprise.

You cannot just purchase a web site or build a web site and then sit back and watch thousands of prospects just flow into your auto-responder. That won’t happen. If it was that easy – then everyone on our planet would be doing the same thing.

I’m allowing myself to get carried away here and possibly moving my post slightly off course.

The point is that this blogger that I recently communicated with, this “spit-fire” that I’m referring to had checked out one of my posts and gave me a very motivating comment. A comment that forced me scratch my head and take a good look at my own self-belief system and to my surprise, I found a weak spot in my belief system – it had all but evaporated!! Where were my rules, my goals and my Strategic Plan of Action?

If you have been following my blog for any great length of time, you would have noticed a shortage of posts. That’s like opening a candy shop and making available only two candy bars!

The point is this…in order to accomplish what you want in life; just like losing weight starts in your mind, being the most popular blogger on the planet, being the top salesperson in your company or being the best Mom or Dad in the world…you must keep a constant vigil on your actions, dreams, goals, rules, etc.

Make sure you:

  • Are not victims of “self-limiting” beliefs?
  • Protect yourself against procrastination.
  • Maintain a logical set of personal and business RULES.
  • Have the needed “burning desire” to set and accomplish your goals.
  • Set-up a Strategic Plan of Action.

Help me out on this one…I would like to hear from you!!

  1. Hi Les,

Boy you grabbed the bull by its horns. Loved your blog post and now you’re on fire.

I quit smoking about eight months ago and I thought I’d never do it and one day I woke up made the decision to quit and I did. I don’t even think about them any more. The next thing I want to do is loose thirty pounds. In so many ways it is mind over matter. I have to try and failure is no longer an option. I will pick myself up, dust myself off and start all over again. Do you have any advise on loosing thirty pounds?

I’m glad to see you back blogging. It feels great doesn’t it? Totally awesome post! We bloggers have to do time management, setting goals and all the things you talked about in your post.

You have an awesome rest of the week!
